One week of testing down, one more week to go.  Thank you for sending in healthy snacks and drinks for the class this week.  Snack time is the highlight of the day.

Thank you for sending in your recipes.  They all look absolutely delicious.  If you were unable to get the recipe in by Friday, please send it in no later than Monday, March 8.  The children will begin copying the recipes next week.   We hope to send everything to the printer by Friday, March 12.  The printer willl print and bind the books for a rock bottom price of $2 per book.  Our profit to send to Haiti will be $3 per book sold.  That should still be a nice sum,  but if anyone has any ideas how to increase the amount we can send, let me know.

The auction basket that our class is putting together is “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”.  We’ve gotten a few really nice items donated so far, but we need lots more.  Michele Marcuccio has contacted everyone with donation suggestions.  Please help anyway you can.

There is a possibility  of a field trip to the Galveston County Fair in Hitchcock on Thursday, April 15.  I stress possibility because it will depend on 2 things: 1) we will need drivers who have a current DPS approval on record in the school office and 2) every child will need to be in a booster seat.  If you think you might be able to drive, stop by or call the office to find out if your name is on the approved drivers list.

Please get your child’s registration form for next year in to the office as soon as possible.  Classes fill up quickly.

One more week of no homework but please continue to check your child’s homework folder daily for conduct marks, notes, or reminders.

It is that time of year when our hearts turn to those in need as we celebrate the importance of service and sacrifice.  During Lent our school comes together in a service project.  The project is an opportunity for our students to raise money through their service to others and sacrifice of time. This commitment will benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake.  This year, the first grade will raise money by  selling cookbooks made by each student containing their favorte recipe.  The sacrifice of time will include making the cookbook and selling them to family and friends.

Please start thinking about a recipe to send in.  We need 100% participation to make this a successful project.  Look for a sheet of instructions coming home in your child’s homework folder on Monday, March 1.   Recipes need to be sent in as soon as possible but no later than Friday, March 5.  Thank you for any and all help you can give.  Email any questions:  mfoster@stmarycatholicschool.com

The cowgirls and buckaroos had a great time on Friday.   They all looked like they were ready to rope cattle or ride the trail.  They always enjoy dressing in western wear.  I hear some of you are going to the rodeo this weekend.  Have a wonderful time!

Thank you to those of you who sent in large boxes of tissues.  We have a lot of sneezing going on and the tissues were greatly appreciated.  Thank you to the Ferrer family for sending in items for our treasure box.  We could use more.  Thank you to the Respondek family for sending in items for our auction basket.  The theme is “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” and we need a lot more to make a nice full basket.  Baskets will be auctioned at the school’s gala event in April -”Hoop De Doo”.  Thanks for your help.

There will be no homework for the next 2 weeks due to the standardized testing.  Please continue to check your child’s homework folder every night in case there are notes or reminders for you.

Standardized testing is coming soon!  We’ll have our practice test on Friday, Feb. 26 and begin testing on Monday, March 1.  A paper went home today in your child’s folder about testing and included a snack schedule with a list of suggested healthy snack items.  The list of who brings what when is posted below this newsletter.

Our class is in need of more boxes of tissues.  Please send in  family size boxes next week.  I could also use more small items for the treasure box.  Thanks for any help you can give.

For Lent this year, the first grade classes have a project in mind but the details are not finalized yet.  More information will soon follow.

Go Texan Day will be Friday, Feb. 26.  Your child may wear anything western such as boots, hat, jeans, western shirt, tie, bandana, western skirt or dress, belt buckle.  No guns or spurs.  Jeans and a tee shirt with “Texas” on it is not considered western wear.  If your child does not wear western clothes, he/she needs to wear full dress, since we will be going to mass in the morning.
